Man stealing gas while smoking a cigarette lights himself on fire
A man may go down in history as one of the stupidest thieves ever, although there are a lot of competitors out there for the title.
A suspect lit himself on fire while trying to steal gasoline in Portland Sunday, police said.
It was just after 11:001 a.m. when 62-year-old Harry Frederick Suniville stole a partially-filled gas can from a truck and began pouring the gas into his vehicle while smoking a cigarette, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson with the Portland police.
The gasoline then ignited, which then burnt Suniville’s socks and pants, and singed his eyebrows and hair, Simpson said.
Firefighters came on the scene and extinguished the fire. Paramedics treated Suniville before he was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, reckless burning, and theft, Simpson said.
Suniville’s vehicle was damaged and towed from the scene, according to KGW.

Merry Christmas From Overly Attached Girlfriend
Overly attached girlfriend says, "We are going to have a great Christmas together. Every year. For the rest of our lives." The 'overly attached girlfriend' meme began in 2012, then took on a life of its own.
This is frightening, so of course I had to share it.

Donations pour in, Blind man gets to keep Hero Dog who saved his life
Donations are pouring in to help a blind man keep his service dog. Cecil Williams was walking on the subway platform in New York with his service dog, Orlando when witnesses saw him slipping and falling onto the tracks.
Williams was saved by the quick actions of his service dog and an MTA employee who yelled for them to put their heads down, just before the subway train ran over the pair, leaving them with only a scratch.
Then it was revealed that Williams cannot keep his service dog because his insurance will not provide coverage. Good citizens intervened with their wallets.
Merry Christmas Mr. Williams and Orlando.

Pope replaces Conservative U.S. Cardinal on influential Vatican Committee, expect right wing heads to explode
In a move signaling more inclusivity with the Church, Pope Francis moved on Monday against a conservative American cardinal who has been an outspoken critic of abortion and same-sex marriage, by replacing him on a powerful Vatican committee with another American who is less identified with the culture wars within the Roman Catholic Church.
Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington was named by Pope Francis to the Vatican committee that selects new bishops. The Pope removed Cardinal Raymond L. Burke, a favorite among Conservatives, from the Congregation for Bishops.

Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington was named by Pope Francis to the Vatican committee that selects new bishops. The Pope removed Cardinal Raymond L. Burke, a favorite among Conservatives, from the Congregation for Bishops.
The New York Times reports:
“He is saying that you don’t need to be a conservative to become a bishop,” said Alberto Melloni, the director of the John XXIII Foundation for Religious Studies in Bologna, Italy, a liberal Catholic research institute.
“He wants good bishops, regardless of how conservative or liberal they are.” Cardinal Burke, who came to the Vatican in 2008 after serving as archbishop of St. Louis, is a favorite of many conservative Catholics in the United States for his upholding of church rites and traditions favored by Pope Benedict XVI.
Cardinal Burke’s preference for the long train of billowing red silk known as cappa magna, and other such vestments, has, however, made him seem out of step with Francis, who has made it clear through example that he prefers more humble attire.
Last week, Cardinal Burke also seemed to create more substantive daylight between himself and the pope, giving an interview in which he raised concerns about comments by Francis that the church should reduce the focus on abortion and same-sex marriage.
